Season Wrap Up 2016
That's a wrap for another successful and fun season of snowboarding here in Whistler. This year's campers saw many, many powder days enabling the coaches and campers to ride lots of challenging and varied terrain. Nothing seemed off limits with an abundance of trees to ride including the summer mountain bike trails. These off the trail runs are a maze of twisting, winding and rolling tracks through much of Whistlers mid to lower mountain runs, a fun natural border cross course.
A big part of our program saw lots of campers travel out for between 4-12 weeks to progress their freeride, freestyle or complete their CASI Instructor certifications. Our dedicated instructor candidates trained extremely hard and passed for another 100% pass rate on level 1 & 2 CASI exams. Congratulations.
The Mt baker road trip has to be one of the highlights for many of the season long campers. This small local mountain has all the snow and steep terrain you could ever ask for. A full trip report can be found in our Mt Baker Blog
With a fantastic season of snow many of our shorter 1-2 week camps mixed up their programs with a combination of technical freeride training, powder, trees and steeps followed by Freestyle in the park and over natural terrain on their 2nd week. Soft landings made it ideal for those wanting to push their riding a little further.
During the season we were able to run 2 full day backcountry jump sessions in Ziggys meadow. As always we had fresh snow and blue skies making it the perfect opportunity to try some new tricks. Everyone becomes involved form learning to build a jump, shaping it, side slipping the landing and finally testing the jump. We built up to 3 jumps of varied sizes and shapes for all levels.
To wrap up our final few weeks we toped it off with a traditional camp bbq of salmon and one final last night at the Cinnamon Bear Bar. Thanks to all the amazing Pro Ride coaches Duncan, Tim, Terra, Alan, Kelsey, Neil, Vince, Luke and JP for all their hard work. We are lucky to have such an amazing crew of talented riders.
